Pictures In a Box

Photo AlbumOct 14, '08 5:26 PM
for everyone
Pictures shot on my second trip to the Rangamati lake. This is my second crack at shooting the lake at dawn. The only difference is that this time I was prepared to take to the water a good hour before sunrise. The result was breathtaking, whatever notion I had beforehand was blown away by the sheer volume of visual stimuli generated by my optical apperatus...

Thanks, I hurried on to the boat for this handheld, time was precious and could not afford to waste a single minute for a tripod shot...

I'm about 5'8" tall, as far as I know, it could easily have been you standing out there instead of me... Cheers my friend!!!

Thanks Esther, I used a soft tobacco grad filter for this one... lovely place, ain't it? Believe me, I can still feel the rush as I try to recollect my thoughts!!

Thanks again, I bet she'd be at least a hundred... I don't think she could see me that well.

Glad that I was able to capture the splash from the oar, a group of native fisherman returning from a hard days work.

Thanks Esther, you're always an inspiration... they've built a very primitive type of lever on top of a makeshift platform to reel in the large fishing net.

Thanks Miriam, I had to crop in tight to get the detail and perspective for this one, the colors are truly awesome in this part of the day...

Thanks, this is a handheld from the bow. I chose a higher shutter speed to freeze the moment, and i wouldn't dare to prop up the ISO in my three year old camera (anything above 400 generates unmanageable noise)... hence the lack of apparent detail in the shot.

yes, it's interesting to see how skills are passed from one generation to the next... and hectic, considering how early it was in the morning.

Thanks, I had just propped up my tripod as these boatmen went past. We're still in the early days of Autumn, the last vestiges of the monsoon would soon be gone and humidity will fall to tolerable levels. It's very pleasent in the mornings, just about right for a enjoyable walk down the valley.

Thanks my friend, he's a blacksmith, yes it's true, believe it or not, people here are still dependent on local metal workers for their tools and cutting equipment... iron works and crude alloy making skills are abundant.

Thanks, it was a handheld from the bow, sunrise was still a long way off, an event exacerbated by the low clouds and the hills in the background.

Thanks, it's actually a makeshift platform made by the local fishermen that employs a primitive lever that reels in a large net.

True, although, fishing has not been one of the mainstays of tribal culture, it's only when the lake was created (back in the 60's) that the native population was forced to look for alternatives to agriculture. The bengali population that has subsequently settled in the surrounding lands have also turned to fishing as wet rice agriculture is unviable in lands that have a slope >15*.

Thanks Miriam, I really appreciate you dropping by once in a while, what r u upto these days? This one is a handheld from the bow, i had to use a faster shutter speed to even-out the motion blurr... hence the underexposure, you gotta give something to gain something!!!

Thank you, I shot at the rate of about a shot at every second until I got this right, a truly fleeting moment.

Thank you, ;-D ...this was shot with a 300mm nikkor, there was still some diffused light (reflected by the water) to get a bit of detail on the subject.

Thanks, Josh. I had precious little time to compose, the lighting condition changes so fast at this hour. I was also shooting from a boat, therefore, very little time to identify and then act on my impulses.
